Sparta Prague has been struggling with the goalkeeper position throughout the preseason. The team from Prague had hoped to bring back Matěj Kovář from Manchester United, who had previously played for them on loan last season. However, with the qualification for the Champions League approaching, the Sparta Prague management did not want to wait any longer for a decision from the English club.

In the opening round of the league season, Sparta Prague’s new goalkeeper, Peter Vindahl Jensen, made his debut and kept a clean sheet in a 2-0 victory over Olomouc. „Matěj Kovář, along with his agency and Manchester United, is still considering his career options. We wanted him to stay with Sparta, but at this point, we can no longer wait. The climax of our summer is approaching with the Champions League qualification. As I mentioned during our training camp in Austria, if we can’t bring Matěj back, we have to react,“ said Sparta Prague’s sporting director Tomáš Rosický.

Vindahl Jensen will join several compatriots at Sparta Prague. The team is led by Danish coach Brian Priske, and they also have Danish defenders Casper Højer and Asger Sørensen in their squad. Sørensen recently joined Sparta Prague after playing for Nuremberg.

„Peter has experience from foreign leagues and European cup matches. He is a goalkeeper who possesses the physical attributes and abilities that we expect from this position. We closely monitored his performances in the second Bundesliga last season,“ said Rosický.

Vindahl Jensen caught Sparta Prague’s attention during a friendly match in January, where Nuremberg lost 3-1 to Sparta Prague. In addition to Nuremberg and Alkmaar, where he played in the UEFA Conference League, Vindahl Jensen has also played for Nordsjælland.

In the past, Vindahl Jensen was part of the U21 national team and was even called up to the senior national team, although he has yet to make an appearance for them.
