Chelsea Breaks Transfer Record with Signing of Enzo Fernández
Chelsea Football Club has made a historic transfer by signing Enzo Fernández from Benfica Lisbon for a staggering £107 million. The Argentine World Cup winner’s move to Chelsea surpasses the previous record held by Caicedo’s transfer to Liverpool, which was agreed upon with Brighton for a fee of £111 million. However, the young footballer declined Liverpool’s offer and chose another interested party instead.
„When Chelsea approached me, I didn’t have to think twice. I knew I wanted to sign with them. Being here is a dream come true for me, and I can’t wait to start with the team,“ said Caicedo, who has signed an eight-year contract at Stamford Bridge.
Brighton has profited greatly from this transfer. Caicedo joined the club two years ago from Ecuadorian side Independiente del Valle for €5 million (£4.3 million). He made his Premier League debut in April of last year and has scored two goals in 45 appearances. Earlier this year, he extended his contract with Brighton until 2027.
In the national team, Caicedo has played 32 matches and scored three goals. With a transfer fee of €133 million (£114 million), he ranks fourth in the list of most expensive footballers in history, behind Neymar of Brazil (€222 million), Kylian Mbappé of France (€180 million), and Philippe Coutinho of Brazil (€145 million).
