Biathlete Krčmář bounces back with strong sprint performance
After three disappointing days in the relay, the best sprinter of the season finished in 19th place amidst a lively atmosphere with over 26,000 spectators. The victory of the football team Sparta in Karviná also boosted his spirits. Krčmář told reporters that it was a great start to the spring season and provided him with even more motivation for the pursuit race on Sunday.
Entering the race today without specific placement goals, Krčmář focused on delivering a precise performance on the track and at the shooting range. He emphasized the importance of the sprint in the pursuit race and the mental aspect of the competition. He expressed satisfaction with his 19th place finish and stated that he will continue to fight.
The 30-year-old athlete from Vrchlabí wanted to forget about his unsuccessful performance in the Wednesday relay, where he had to complete a penalty loop. Even after the opening race of the championship, they finished 14th. Krčmář described it as a challenging experience for his self-confidence. He knew that he had to work extremely hard on every movement, breath, and shot. He was relieved that he managed to handle it.
During his days off, he managed to change his mindset. He admitted that he might have been too focused and it affected him. He tried to shift his focus back to enjoying the sport. Krčmář, a silver Olympic medalist from PyeongChang 2018, crossed the finish line and collapsed into the snow, taking a long rest. He had the 18th fastest skiing time.
When he climbed up above the tunnels in the last lap, he was a bit scared about how he would reach the finish line. The crowd pushes athletes to their limits. He appreciated the atmosphere and enjoyed the sport. He believes that the mixed relay was a valuable lesson for him even at this stage of his career. He continues to learn and adapt to new things every year. However, the disappointment will stay with him for a while. He emphasized the importance of teamwork in biathlon.
Krčmář was cheered on by 26,863 spectators in the Vysočina Arena, along with other competitors. He felt that he was back in the game and enjoyed the atmosphere, the sport, and what he does.
