Erling Haaland has started the league season just like last year – when he made his debut after moving from Germany, he scored two goals to secure an away victory against West Ham. He finished the season with 36 goals and became the top scorer in the Premier League.
Today, he scored his first goal in the 4th minute. After a cross from Rodri, Haaland struck the ball from close range into the net. In the 36th minute, Haaland was fouled in the penalty area by Alvarez, and the Norwegian striker sent the ball into the goal for the second time. Towards the end of the match, Rodri increased the lead to 3-0 after a set piece.
A downside to the away victory was the injury of Kevin de Bruyne, who had to leave the pitch after just 23 minutes. Manager Pep Guardiola sent summer signing Mateo Kovacic from Chelsea onto the field as his replacement.
The match was marred by an incident involving a spectator who threw a lighter at Manchester City defender Rico Lewis in the first half. The home club later announced that the fan had been identified and removed from the stadium. „Anyone who throws objects at us will be banned,“ Burnley stated.
This was the result of the first round of matches in the English football league:
Burnley – Manchester City 0:3 (4th and 36th Haaland, 75th Rodri).
