Slavia Praha, one of the top football clubs in the Czech Republic, will undergo a reconstruction of their playing surface. However, this will not require the postponement of their next home league match against Banik Ostrava on August 20th. The chairman of Slavia Praha, Jaroslav Tvrdik, announced this on Twitter, referring to an article on the Sport.cz website.
Tvrdik had already informed on Monday that Slavia would replace the turf, which has not rooted properly even after six weeks since its installation and is in very poor condition. The pitch has been problematic since the beginning of the league season, which was also mentioned by coach Jindrich Trpisovsky after their 2-1 victory over Zlin on Sunday.
After playing a home match against Dnipro, the reconstruction of the playing surface will begin the next day at Eden Stadium, which was not ideal even in the previous season.
„On Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, the turf will be removed and the subsoil will be rehabilitated. On Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, the new turf will be laid. We have ordered a special turf from Germany. According to the supplier, it should be ready for play in peace on the fourth day after installation,“ said Jakub Splavec, Slavia’s director of strategic communication, to Sport.cz.
Slavia plans to play their home match against Ostrava in the original schedule on August 20th. They will not seek a postponement of the match, despite the willingness of the Czech Football Association, which oversees professional competitions in the country, and Banik Ostrava to accommodate Slavia. „We are immensely grateful to them, but we will not postpone the match. We have managed to find a quick solution,“ added Splavec.
